Their first child. That particular session has a quality that is hard to describe to someone who has not been in the room for it. The combination of exhaustion, wonder, and that specific kind of tenderness that comes with new parenthood. The Foothills Reserve in Palo Alto gave us space and extraordinary natural light, the kind that moves through the trees in a way that photographs without effort.
The images from that day were timeless in a way I notice in certain sessions. Nothing dates them. They are just a family, early on, in good light, in a place they will always remember taking their first child.
They came back a second time, with their second child, to the same location. Same trees. Same light. Different family.
